The University of Chicago Divinity School seeks scholar(s) in Theology (e.g., constructive theology, systematic theology, historical theology, theological ethics, ethnographic theology), for an appointment date of July 1, 2020. The Divinity School has a distinctive theological tradition, one in which theology seeks to be a full partner in the University’s broader conversations; theologians here thus aim to contribute something to these conversations, just as they expect to be informed and challenged by them. We look to carry on this tradition by hiring theologian(s) whose contributions are engaged with scholarship on women, theology, and religion; this scholarship may include womanist theology, mujerista theology, Asian feminist theology, or other varieties of feminist theology, just as it may include work on gender and/or intersectionality. Ideal candidates will have a compelling research agenda that engages such scholarship and promises original and significant work in the field; can teach courses on this scholarship and advise students who are interested in drawing on it; and are willing and able to engage in interdisciplinary conversation with other scholars of religion and other fields within the University.
The Divinity School is the graduate professional school for the academic study of religion at the University of Chicago, a private research university. Faculty in the School teach Ph.D. students; Master’s students in M.A., M.Div., and A.M.R.S. programs; and undergraduates in the College. Many faculty members hold associate appointments in humanities or social science departments and professional schools of the University.
Candidates must hold the Ph.D. in Theology or a related course of study by the time of appointment.
