Fellowship, Sacred Writes/Bitch Media Partnership

Sacred Writes is now accepting applications from scholars for up to two funded partnerships with Bitch Media. These three-month fellowships are modeled on Bitch Media’s Fellowships for Writers program. The goal is to develop, support, and amplify emerging, diverse voices in feminist, activist, and pop culture media. All fellows will work under the guidance of Bitch cofounder Andi Zeisler. Applicants must have graduate level training in religious studies, theology, biblical studies, or a related field and be able to work in one of four subject areas: sexual politics, pop culture criticism, technology, or global feminism. This partnership is open to faculty, independent scholars, and graduate students. Deadline for applications is 1 November 2019.

ABOUT BITCH MEDIA

Bitch Media’s mission is to provide and encourage an engaged, thoughtful feminist response to mainstream media and culture. Bitch Media is in print with Bitch magazine, online at bitchmedia.org, on the air with the Popaganda and Backtalk podcasts, and on campuses around the world via Bitch on Campus. Bitch seeks to be a fresh, revitalizing voice in contemporary feminism, one that welcomes complex arguments and refuses to ignore the contradictory and often uncomfortable realities of life in an unequivocally gendered world. Bitch Media has a broad reach, with a community that has grown to over 6 million readers around the globe.

DURATION

Two three-month cycles are available in 2020:

  • March 1 – May 30
  • June 1 – August 31

Please specify on your application which you are available for.

SCOPE

Fellows will work in one of four subject areas during their fellowship period:

  • Sexual politics
  • Pop culture criticism
  • Technology
  • Global feminism

During the three-month fellowship, fellows will produce a minimum of four online articles (1800- 2000 words) for Bitch Media in the topic area of their fellowship. These pieces can take a variety of forms: reported, analytical, advocacy-focused, and even infographic. The partnership includes biweekly discussions (by phone or Zoom if fellows cannot meet in person) with the fellowship director and other members of the Bitch Media staff. Scholars will receive mentorship and support in creating, shaping, and editing articles and online pieces. Sacred Writes will provide a $2000 stipend for the three-month fellowship for each scholar partnered with Bitch Media.
